Hey, how come America doesn't have a poetry reality show? Right now the most popular prime-time show in the Middle East is an American Idol-style show called Million's Poet.
"With its catchy theme song, coloured lights and giant video screens, the show bears a striking resemblance to Pop Idol. But in the deeply conservative United Arab Emirates, the studio audience is segregated according to sex, the judges hold doctorates and the hostess wears a hot-pink abaya."I'm not really the type, but if a hot-pink abaya is what it takes, I'm in.
"[Million's Poet], soon to be entering its second season, proved an instant hit that has spawned new poetry competitions including Prince of Poets, also on Abu Dhabi TV, and similar shows on Lebanese and Egyptian television. It has even spawned a television channel dedicated to poetry."Now that's a channel I'd be willing to get cable for.
